colour as language
John has developed a deep and sustained interest in the visual aspects of the natural sciences, especially geology and arboreal morphology. His work is multifaceted, encompassing oil painting on pieces of native woods, relief collage using gouache on Japanese paper, metal reliefs, and intaglio printmaking.

The catalogue presents an extensive collection of John's most recent work. Using oil paint and gold and silver leaf and working on organically shaped pieces of local native wood (wind falls), John's paintings build layers of colour emulating nature’s processes of growth and timelessness.
